23. First Encounter

A quick bump; shoulder to shoulder as they walk by. She stops first, clutching her fingers around the socket as the sudden pain overtakes her mind. "Hey!"

The sound of her call reaches his ears and he turns around, shoving his friend and holding back a laugh as he does so. Did he actually bump her? He didn't even realise. "Hey?"

"Yeah, hey." She repeats, scoffing at her own words as her eyebrows knit together with a frown.

He raises his hand and points to her arm; "Did I-?"

"Yeah, you did."

"Sorry," He breathes, "I-"

She waves her hand in his direction, taking a step back, "It's fine."

"Looks like it hurt." He says with a laugh, glancing at her arm. She quickly drops her hand away and tucks it behind her back.

"It didn't."

"Riiight." He waves his hand, brushing off the situation and, by proxy, her attitude. "Well, if I can't help, then I'm just gonna... Go." He throws a point with his thumb back towards his waiting friends.

"I didn't ask you to stop, so..." She sighs with a shrug. And she made a point to walk away first. Somehow it felt like a moral victory that way.
